Mission Outreach of Good Shepherd Church:
The Paper Pantry This is our most recent outreach. On the last Monday of each month, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., we open our doors to folks on fixed or limited income who cannot afford to buy paper products or personal hygiene products. As the word about this ministry continues spreading we are discovering more and more people who are caught short in these tough economic times.
"Sock it to You!" This mission, which started in 2005, came about because of a dream one of our parishoners kept having at night. As a result of that dream we have collected over 3,000 pair of new socks--socks that have been distributed to men, women and children throughout Michiana. We partner with Broadway Christian Parish, the YWCA, and Hope Mission to help distribute the socks.
Food Pantry Support. We collect food products throughout the year and distribute them to various food pantries in the area.
We also respond to various natural disasters and man-made disasters in the United States and around the world through the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).
During the year we have several different events that we use to generate interest in mission outreach and to raise money. In the fall we sponsor the Harvest Happening (this year on October 12) and then early in December we have breakfast with Santa. In the spring of the year, near Easter, we have a community Easter egg hunt. These events are free but we ask families to bring a canned good or paper product to donate to one of these missions.
If you would like to donate or learn more please contact us via e-mail or leave your name and number on the answering machine at the church (273-2246).
