VBS ran for five Tuesdays in July and we had a lot of fun Surfin’ through the Scriptures! Each evening had a different theme: Be Obedient--Be Kind--Be Forgiving--Be Bold--Be Believing. Using scriptures from the Old and New Testaments we shared the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the children. From week to week we averaged about 20 children who not only learned a lot but also had a whole bunch of fun.
Summer Soccer--2008 This summer approximately 25 kids every came every Thursday from end of June to the beginning of August to have some fun on the soccer field. Before the soccer activities started we shared a meal with the kids and their families. After the meal it was off to the soccer fields to learn some new skills and to pratice some of their old skills and then onto some soccer games. At the last meeting for the summer we celebrated with delicious cake (wonderfully made in the shape of a soccer ball by Peggy Watson) and ice cream.
Breakfast with Santa! Watch for the date of our 2008 Breakfast with Santa. Last year our breakfast with Santa was a great success. We had a great turn out of visitors and volunteers as just a few shy of 90 people participated. Kids heard the Christmas story told by Pastor Mike, had a chance to meet Santa and then shop for their families at our Santa's helper gift shop. We raised $265 for the Jubilee Christmas Shop at Broadway Christian Parish--a ministry which helps make Christmas real for struggling families.
Report on the 2007 Harvest Happening-- 75 to 80 people came out for our Harvest Happening on Oct. 14. Though the weather didn't fully cooperate the rain held off and we had a great afternoon. Children's games and rides on a Segway were fun parts of the afternoon. (Thank you to Rocky Papandria of Segway of Indiana) Two officers from the St. Joe County Sheriff's Police came and gave us a very interesting demonstration with their police dogs. We also want to thank the firefighters and paramedics from the Harris Township Fire Station who brought a fire truck and ambulance so the kids could see their equipment up close. We raised almost $250 which will go to benefit Hope Rescue Mission, one of the local missions we support here in Michiana. (See pictures here)
Summer Soccer Program 2007. Our summer soccer program for 2007 (see pictures here) was a great success. In fact it was so successful we'll need help for our 2008 Summer Soccer program. Because our turnout was so large we need several more soccer coaches and volunteers to assist in instruction. We're looking, not only, for adults to help us but also teenage soccer players who would like to share some of their knowledge and skill with younger players. Contact us at soccer@ggsonline.net.
